I am just starting to learn about multitouch technology in computers. After stumbling upon a how-to video on YouTube to make a cheap multitouch surface out of a box, glass, paper, and webcam, I have been very interested in this technology. I am learning mostly everything I need to know from the Natural User Interface Group (NUI Group) website and forums. My username is iTrent, look for me! Go to www.nuigroup.com to find me. I have made my cheap multitouch surface, however I have not tested it yet because I am using a PPC Mac, running OSX 10.5 right now and that is not CURRENTLY supported by them, but it will be very soon, from what I hear.
After a lot of practice and getting familiar with Touchlib and making surfaces. I am going to ATTEMPT to build a coffee table type multitouch surface for the waiting area of SafeNet Consulting (a computer consulting firm). My dad started the buisness with two other guys and he seemed very intrigued by the idea to have a multitouch surface as a coffee table in his office building. It was actually his idea to have me build it though. Seeing as how I am only 14, this could be a big project for me, so thats why I am sharing it with you.
My idea is to have it built with the computer in it, and have a small drawer come out for a bluetooth keyboard and mouse. It will be made of wood but I am going to wield some chrome sheet metal around it so only chrome, and the glass surface is shown.
Talk to you soon!
